Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is an organic compound with the structural formula (CH3COO)3BHNa. The CAS number is 56553-60-7. It is a white solid that is easily soluble in benzene and tetrahydrofuran.

Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is a new catalyst for reductive amination developed in recent years. It has excellent universality and selectivity, mild reaction conditions, good catalytic reduction performance, and is easy to separate and purify. The catalyst itself and the by-products are non-toxic and do not pollute the environment. It has become the preferred catalyst for reductive amination.

Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is mainly used for various reduction reactions such as reductive amination and carbonyl reduction. It can be used for amination reduction of ketones and aldehydes, reductive amination/lactamization of carbonyl complexes and amines, and reductive amination of aromatic aldehydes.

The preparation method of sodium triacetoxyborohydride is as follows:

Suspend an appropriate amount of sodium borohydride in benzene, add an appropriate amount of glacial acetic acid, and then slowly add an appropriate amount of acetic anhydride. After the reaction is completed, filter to obtain a solid, wash it with tetrahydrofuran and dry it.

Safety information:
1. Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is irritating to the skin and eyes. Care should be taken to avoid contact during operation. Wear protective gloves and goggles when necessary.
2. During storage and handling, avoid contact with water vapor in the air because it is sensitive to water and will decompose.
