Dec 13, 2024 Leave a message

Chemical composition: It is composed of boron (B) and bromine (Br), of which boron accounts for 4.32% and bromine accounts for 95.69%.
Physical properties: Boron tribromide is a colorless transparent liquid with a monoclinic crystal structure. The crystals are plate-shaped, and the aggregates are usually cluster-shaped, fibrous, radial, etc. It is volatile at room temperature, with a density of 2.6g/cm³, a melting point of -46.0°C, and a boiling point of about 90°C.
Solubility: Boron tribromide is soluble in carbon tetrachloride, sulfur dioxide (liquid), and carbon disulfide, and decomposes in water and ethanol.
Chemical activity: Boron tribromide is a strong Lewis acid that can react with alkali to form complexes and adducts. It has strong water absorption, is easily decomposed when exposed to light and heat, and emits white smoke when exposed to air.
Application:
As a catalyst, intermediate and brominating agent for organic synthesis.
Used as a raw material for the manufacture of high-purity boron and other organic boron compounds.
As a doping material in the semiconductor industry.
Promote the cleavage reaction of ether bonds, amine bonds, and thiol bonds, as well as the addition reaction of compounds such as propadiene and alkynes.
Applications in the fields of pharmaceutical chemistry, natural product chemistry, and new materials.
