Aluminium sec-butoxide, also known as aluminium sec-butoxide or aluminium 2-sec-butoxide, is an important organometallic compound with a wide range of applications and unique physico-chemical properties.

Aluminium sec-butoxide has excellent solubility and reactivity and exhibits outstanding performance in esterification, transesterification and polymerisation reactions, providing high selectivity and yield and significantly accelerating reaction rates.

The preparation of aluminium sec-butoxide is a multi-step and delicate process. It usually involves cutting high-purity metallic aluminium into small pieces or shavings, dissolving it in sec-butoxide and adding metallic sodium as a reducing agent under vigorous stirring to promote the formation of sec-butoxyaluminium. Finally, the excess sodium metal and unreacted aluminium are removed by filtration or decantation, and the resulting solution is the crude aluminium sec-butanolate, which can be further purified by distillation under reduced pressure.

Aluminum Sec-Butoxide

Chemical industry: Aluminium sec-butoxide has become an indispensable and important raw material in the production of products for the chemical industry, such as spices, flavours and plastics.
Material science: as a precursor for MOF synthesis, sec-butoxyaluminium is able to prepare high-quality materials with good thermal and chemical stability, which have a wide range of application prospects in catalysis, gas storage and separation.
Pharmaceutical industry: commonly used as Lewis acid catalysts, it excels in the synthesis of chiral compounds such as amino acids and pharmaceutical intermediates. It is also used as a stabiliser in pharmaceutical preparations to prevent the degradation of active pharmaceutical ingredients and to effectively prevent the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms, thereby extending the shelf life of drugs. In vaccine production, it can also be used as a coagulant to help aggregate antigenic proteins and enhance their immunogenicity.
Other applications: It can also be used as a reducing and oxidising agent for inorganic membranes, aldehydes and ketones, a gelling agent for inks and paints, and a waterproofing agent for fabrics.

Aluminum Sec-Butoxide

In summary, aluminium sec-butoxide, as a versatile organometallic compound, shows a wide range of applications in several fields. However, safety practices must be strictly adhered to during preparation and use to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
