What is pam polyacrylamide?

 

Polyacrylamide is, simply called PAM, a water- soluble high polymer and widely used in petroleum, paper-making, metallurgical, textile, chemical and environment protection fields. There are three categories of anionic, cationic and non-ionic type.Usually a polymer with a head-to-tail bonding structure of acrylamide monomer, it is a hard glassy solid at room temperature. Due to the different preparation methods, polyacrylamide have white powder, translucent beads and flakes.

Application

 

  1. Wastewater treatment: Polyacrylamide, as a flocculant, can make suspended particles and colloidal substances in industrial wastewater condense into large flocs, accelerating sedimentation and separation.
  2. Sludge dehydration: Adding PAM to the sludge produced by industrial wastewater treatment can reduce the water content of the sludge and improve the dehydration performance of the sludge. It makes it easier to separate the water in the sludge.
  3. Circulating cooling water system: PAM can be used as a water quality stabilizer to prevent calcium, magnesium and other ions in the water from forming scale, and it can also inhibit the growth and reproduction of microorganisms and save water resources.
  4. Papermaking industry wastewater treatment: It can effectively flocculate impurities such as fine fibers, fillers, resins, etc. in papermaking wastewater, improve the clarity of wastewater, and reduce papermaking production costs.

Application and Dosage

Application and Dosage:
Depending on the effluent type and application, the dose range is between 0.2 and 3.0 ppm. To assess the functionality and approximate dosage, a jar test is always recommended.

Jar Test:
Place an effluent sample in a beaker, add it as directed, and stir for one minute at 100–120 rpm before stirring gradually at 60 rpm. Note the sedimentation and the purity of the top solution while accurately determining the floc at this point.

Flocculant dispersion and dissolution steps:

  1. Dissolving time: The type of flocculant, temperature, agitation, and water quality all affect how long it takes to dissolve. However, it usually takes an hour or more of stirring for the majority of flocculants to dissolve the powder fully. The flocculant's effectiveness may be hampered by lumping or an incomplete flocculant combination.
  2. Agitation speed: The agitator's optimal revolution range is 200–400 rpm. It is not recommended to use a high-speed agitator that does not decrease motor revolution since this could cut the flocculant molecules. A 1-2 m3 mixing tank would benefit greatly from an agitator motor with 1 HP.
  3. Dissolving concentration: Standard dissolution of flocculants should result in a concentration of 0.1-0.2%. Additionally, it works well to begin dissolving at a little greater concentration and then immediately dilute the flocculant mixture before using it.
