What is N-Butanol?
N-Butanol, also known as 1-Butanol, is a colorless, transparent liquid organic compound with a wine smell. It has strong refractive properties. It is easily soluble in ethanol, ether, and aqueous hydrogen sulfide solution, and slightly soluble in water. It is a constant boiling mixture composed of 63% ethanol and 37% water, with a constant boiling point of 92°C and a solubility in water of 9.1 mL/lOOmL (H2O) at 25°C. Its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air. It can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to open flames and high heat. It will react violently when in contact with oxidants. Its CAS number is 71-36-3, its chemical formula is C₄H₁₀O, and its molecular weight is 74.12.
