Ethyl Methyl Carbonate is a colorless transparent liquid. Its melting point is -14℃ or -14.5℃, boiling point is 107℃ or 107.5℃, density is 1.01g/cm³ or 1.006g/ml (25°C) or 0.997 , refractive index is 1.378, flash point is 23℃ or 26.7℃, and vapor pressure is 43hPa (25℃). It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether.
It is relatively stable, but it is prone to decompose under conditions of light, heat, acid, and alkali. Since it contains active reactive groups like methyl, ethyl, and carbonyl, it can react with alcohols, phenols, amines, and esters.
