Uses
Organic synthesis: tert-Butyl methyl ether is used as a non-polar solvent in Grignard reaction, alkylation and acylation reactions. Its low boiling point (55.2°C) facilitates product separation. In addition, its cracking can produce high-purity isobutylene, which is used to produce chemical raw materials such as butyl rubber and methyl methacrylate.
Other uses: used as a precision instrument cleaner and photoresist solvent in the electronics industry; used as a refrigerant in mechanical refrigeration equipment; and as a diesel engine starting fluid.
