It is miscible with water, diethyl ether, methanol, acetone, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, vinyl chloride, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetamide solutions, and many unsaturated hydrocarbons, but immiscible with saturated hydrocarbons. It dissolves certain inorganic salts such as silver nitrate, lithium nitrate, and magnesium bromide.
