Acrylic acid is an organic compound, the simplest unsaturated fatty acid, with the chemical formula C3H4O2. At room temperature and pressure, it is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and is readily soluble in water (miscible), ethanol, and ether. Due to the unsaturated bonds in its structure, it is chemically active and readily polymerizes in air. It can undergo reduction reactions with hydrogen, esterification with alcohols, and addition reactions with hydrogen halides.
