It is easily soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and acetone, but insoluble in water. It is toxic and irritating. 2,4,6-Tri-tert-butylphenol 98 can be obtained by reacting phenol with tert-butyl chloride under alkaline conditions.

Uses
