Pigment Red 4 (CAS No. 2814-77-9) is an important azo organic pigment with the chemical name 1-(2-chloro-4-nitrophenylazo)-2-naphthol, a molecular formula of C16H10ClN3O3, and a molecular weight of 327.73 g/mol.
Appearing as a bright orange-red powder with a distinct yellow-red hue, Pigment Red 4 remains insoluble in water but exhibits slight solubility in organic solvents like ethanol, acetone, and benzene. Its density ranges from 1.45 to 1.65 g/cm³. When dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid, it turns bright vermilion while maintaining stability in dilute sodium hydroxide solution.
Uses:
This pigment finds extensive applications across industries such as inks, coatings, plastics, rubber, and cosmetics. In ink manufacturing, its high color strength and good dispersibility make it suitable for offset, gravure, and water-based inks.
