What is N,N-Dimethyloctylamine?

N,N-Dimethyloctylamine, also known as Octyl dimethyl amine, is an organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a special amine smell. It has a low density, is lighter than water, and has good miscibility. The substance is an alkaline compound that can be dissolved in many organic solvents.
Octyl dimethyl amine is mainly used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam. It can act as a catalyst for polyurethane foam, participate in polymerization reactions, and promote foaming. Polyurethane foam is widely used in various industries such as construction, furniture, automobiles, and electronics.

• Surfactant synthesis: As an intermediate, N,N-Dimethyloctylamine is used to prepare quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactants, which are used in detergents, antistatic agents and water treatment flocculants.
• Oilfield chemistry: Used as a drilling fluid emulsifier or crude oil demulsifier to improve system stability and promote oil-water separation efficiency.
• Metal processing: Adding Octyl dimethyl amine to lubricants or rust inhibitors forms a protective film on the metal surface, reducing friction and improving corrosion resistance.
• Textile and daily chemical fields: Used as a fiber smoothing agent to improve the feel of fabrics, or used in daily chemical products as an emulsifying aid and conditioning ingredient.
