Dodecaborate (CAS No.: 12008-78-5) is a boron-containing inorganic compound with a chemical formula of Na₂B₁₂H₁₂ and a molecular weight of about 308 g/mol. It is composed of two sodium ions combined with a closed dodecaborate anion (B₁₂H₁₂²⁻).
Dodecaborate is usually a white crystalline solid, easily soluble in water to form a stable solution, and slightly soluble in organic solvents. Its anhydrous form is stable at room temperature, but may decompose in high temperature or humid environments to release boron-containing gas.

Hydrogen source and energy storage
As a potential hydrogen storage material, Dodecaborate can release hydrogen through chemical reactions, which can be used for catalytic reduction reactions in organic synthesis, or as a hydrogen carrier in hydrogen fuel cells, low-temperature combustion and other fields.
Relationship in the medical field
Its derivative, disodium mercapto dodecaborate (BSH), is a core drug for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and can be targeted and aggregated in tumor cells.
