2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzothiazole is used as an important intermediate in organic synthesis.

2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzothiazole stops an enzyme called diacylglycerol acyltransferase from making triglycerides. It stops this enzyme working and lowers triglyceride levels by stopping fatty acids being made. It also stops carboxylic acid reductase, which turns acetate and long-chain fatty acids into fatty acid esters. This drug has been shown to reduce triglyceride levels in a study on rats. It also stops enzymes that make triglycerides, leading to less fat being made.

Method of Preparation:
The preparation of 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzothiazole is mainly realized by the elimination substitution reaction of benzylamine group, the general steps are as follows:
