Emulsification: Tween 40 is an oil/water emulsifier that can be used to prepare stable oil-in-water emulsions. It is applied to emulsify ingredients such as oils and fats in the food and cosmetics industries. For example, it is used as an emulsifier in plant protein beverages, with a maximum usage of 2.0 g/kg.
Solubilization: It can serve as a solubilizer to assist poorly soluble substances in dissolving in water. It is commonly employed in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
Other applications: Tween 40 can also function as a stabilizer, diffusant, antistatic agent, and fiber lubricant. In the textile industry, it can act as an antistatic agent and fiber lubricant. In gas chromatography, it can be used as a stationary phase to separate and analyze fatty acid esters, alcohols, ketones, and halides.
