It is also a reagent for the determination of iron, sulfate, and carbon disulfide. Additionally, it can be utilized as a quick-drying solvent for enamel and varnish and as a diluent for coatings.

Industrial applications: In the dye industry, it is employed as a penetrant and leveling agent. It is used in the preparation of sealants, functions as an intermediate in the production of organic compounds, participates in the synthesis of acetate and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, and is also a raw material for the production of di(2-methoxyethyl)phthalate plasticizers.
