Linuron is a phenylurea herbicide with the chemical name 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-methoxy-1-methylurea, the molecular formula C₉H₁₀Cl₂N₂O₂, and a molecular weight of approximately 249.11.

Linuron is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 93–94°C and a density of 1.49 g/cm³. It is slightly soluble in water (0.0075 g/100 mL) and readily soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, acetone, and chloroform.

Uses

Linuron is widely used in corn, wheat, cotton, soybeans, sorghum, vegetables, and orchards to control weeds by inhibiting photosynthesis (photosystem II). Studies indicate that its molecular structure competitively binds to androgen receptors (Ki = 100 μM), demonstrating potential reproductive toxicity and endocrine-disrupting effects in animal models.
