n-Butyllithium reagent reacts with transition metal halides to form butyl-metal complexes (e.g., butyl titanium and butyl zirconium), which serve as catalysts for olefin polymerization. It also participates in reactions analogous to Grignard reagents to generate butylcopper or butylzinc reagents.
