Alpha-terpineol (CAS 98-55-5) is a monocyclic terpene compound that is naturally found in plant essential oils such as turpentine oil, neroli oil, and lemon oil. It is often used as the main ingredient of soap flavors. Its molecular formula is C10H18O and its molecular weight is 154.25. Alpha-terpineol has a common appearance as a colorless viscous liquid or a low melting point transparent crystal, with a sweet fragrance similar to lilac and a slight camphor breath.

Uses:

Spices and flavors:
Because of its strong alkali resistance, Alpha-terpineol is widely used to mix soaps and cosmetic flavors, especially lilac and lily of the valley.
It is used in the food industry to prepare flavors such as apricot, peach, and cola. Its acetate derivatives have citron and lavender aromas.
Medicine and pesticides:
It has an inhibitory effect on periodontal disease bacteria and fungi (such as phytoniae) and can be used as antibacterial cleaners;
As a pesticide additive, it enhances the penetration effect of pesticides.

Method of Preparation:
Produced by condensation reaction of isoprene with butenone, then reacted with Grignard reagent; or by generating hydrated terpene glycol crystalline precipitate from pinene in turpentine oil under the action of 30% sulfuric acid, and the finished product is obtained by dehydration, isolation and distillation after separation.
