Cyclopentadinyltitanium Trichloride(CAS No.: 1270-98-0) is a metal organic compound with a molecular formula of C₅H₅Cl₃Ti and a molecular weight of about 219.32. Its molecular structure contains a cyclopentadienyl group (η⁵-C₅H₅⁻) coordinated with titanium trichloride (TiCl₃), and the titanium atom is +4 valence.
Cyclopentadinyltitanium Trichloride usually appears as an orange to red crystalline powder with a melting point of about 210°C (decomposition). It is sensitive to water and air and rapidly hydrolyzes in water to produce hydrochloric acid and titanium oxide. It is easily soluble in organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and dichloromethane, but insoluble in water.

Properties:
1. It is a reddish brown solid, stable in air, but easily reacts with water and acid.
2. It is soluble in many organic solvents, such as ether, toluene and chlorinated hydrocarbons. But it is insoluble in water.
3. It is a Lewis acid that can coordinate with a variety of ligands to form various complexes.
Uses:
Catalyst: Cyclopentadinyltitanium Trichloride is used as a component of Ziegler-Natta catalyst for the polymerization of olefins (such as ethylene and propylene), which can improve the polymerization efficiency and product regularity.
Organic synthesis: used to prepare other titanium-based compounds (such as titanocene complexes), or as a Lewis acid catalyst to participate in cycloaddition, alkylation and other reactions.
Material science: used to prepare titanium-containing ceramic precursors or nanomaterials.
